- For the selection of surgical specialists, the Taiwan Surgical Association established the Taiwan Surgical Association Surgical Specialist Selection Committee.
- The Chairman of the Committee will be appointed by the President of the Taiwan Surgical Association. The term of office will coincide with that of the Board of Directors and Supervisors. The Chairman will be responsible for all matters pertaining the Committee, including the execution of decisions made by the Committee and the Board of Directors and Supervisors. The Chairman will attend the meetings of the Board of Directors and Supervisors and will report on the affairs related to the Committee. Decisions regarding Association members’ rights and formulations and amendments to the surgical specialist selection principles need to be reported to and approved by the Board of Directors and Supervisors.
- This Committee will comprise of 25 to 55 members and one Director General recommended by the Chairman of the Committee and approved by the President of the Association, and their term of office will be two years. Absentee Committee members will be replaced upon approval by the President of the Association.

Committee member qualifications:
(1) Attending surgeon for 5 or more years at a medical center.
(2) Attending surgeon for 10 or more years at a teaching hospital.
(3) Surgical training position at a teaching or research institution at home or abroad for 5 or more years.
(4) A frequent and reputable contributor to the Association’s journal or to international surgical journals.
(5) A frequent speaker at the Association’s academic conferences or at international surgical conferences and with a considerable reputation in surgical training and teaching.

Committee missions:
(1) Cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Welfare in holding the annual surgical specialist preliminary selection, and report the preliminary selection results to the Ministry of Health and Welfare for review and announcement.
(2) Implementation of formulations and amendments to the surgical specialist selections principles upon approval and announcement by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Executive Yuan.
- The Chairman will convene 5 meetings of the Committee annually, and will convene extraordinary meetings if necessary.
- In accordance to the Association’s Bylaw 25, these organizational rules will be implemented after formulation, amendment and approval by the Board of Directors.
